It is located on the Bosphorus Strait and encompasses the natural harbor known as the Golden Horn, in the northwest of the country. Istanbul is also one of the world’s major conference destinations and is an increasingly popular choice for the world’s leading international associations.
Istanbul extends both on the European (Thrace) and on the Asian (Anatolia) sides of the Bosphorus, and is thereby the only metropolis in the world that is situated on two continents.
Istanbul is a very historical and inspirational city. You can view a lot of monuments from Roman and Ottoman period since Istanbul has served as capital of Roman Empire (330–395), the East Roman (Byzantine) Empire (395–1204 and 1261–1453), the Latin Empire (1204–1261), and the Ottoman Empire (1453–1922).Bosphorus is another astonishing place with seagulls and steamboats. Taksim Square is well-known and amazing place for everybody. The buildings in the Taksim Square are mostly from the Roman Empire period and there are some historical churches as well. In Taksim you can find a lot of Turkish traditional souvenirs and you can taste a lot of Turkish food. Taksim is a crowded place most of time so you have be careful not to get lost.There are many other historical places like Taksim. For example Hagia Sofia, Blue Mosque,Topkapi Palace and Sultanahmet Square. The historic areas of Istanbul were added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1985.
